Qualifying Complications

Do These Injuries Sound Familiar?

The Bard PowerPort’s catheter contains excess barium sulfate that can degrade over time — causing cracks, fractures, and device failure. If you experienced any of the following after a port was implanted, you may have a valid claim.

Catheter Fracture

The most commonly reported failure. Tubing or port housing breaks — sometimes sending fragments toward the heart or lungs and requiring emergency surgery.

Device Migration

The port or catheter shifts out of position inside the body — with or without fracture — damaging vessels and tissue along the way.

Infection & Sepsis

Degraded catheter material fails to block bacteria. Serious infections originating at the port site can require hospitalization and device removal.

Blood Clots, PE & Stroke

Catheter particles entering the bloodstream can trigger thromboembolism, pulmonary embolism, heart attack, or stroke.

Surgical Removal

Failed devices often must be removed or replaced — another surgery, more recovery time, and treatment delays for patients already fighting serious illness.

Wrongful Death

If a loved one passed away from port-related complications, surviving family members may be eligible to file a wrongful death claim.

About the Case

What Is the Bard PowerPort Lawsuit?

Thousands of patients are suing C.R. Bard and parent company Becton Dickinson, alleging PowerPort devices were defectively designed and caused serious, life-altering injuries.

What is a PowerPort?

An implantable port-catheter placed under the skin to deliver chemotherapy, fluids, and medication for patients needing repeated IV access. Bard made some of the most widely used models in the country — including BardPort, SlimPort, and X-Port devices.

What went wrong?

Lawsuits allege the catheter’s polyurethane contains too much barium sulfate, causing the material to degrade — divots, cracks, and fractures that lead to migration, infection, and clotting. Bard allegedly knew and failed to warn patients and doctors.
